Tachinidae of America North of Mexico

This checklist comprises a list of genera and species and their synonyms, arranged by tribe and subfamily, of the Tachinidae of America north of Mexico. The classification follows the catalogue by O'Hara and Wood (2004). As such, it incorporates all the nomenclatural changes published since the catalogue of Sabrosky and Arnaud (1965), most significantly those proposed by Herting (1984) and Wood (1985, 1987). The nomenclatural changes of Wood (1987) were republished in summary form, with additional changes, by O'Hara and Wood (1998). The present classification recognizes 303 genera and 1345 species of Tachinidae in America north of Mexico. This checklist will be updated periodically to reflect published changes in tachinid classification.

The catalogue by O'Hara and Wood (2004) has the same classification as the one here but includes species distributions, complete type information, annotated lists of relevant taxonomic and nomenclatural literature for tribes, genera and species, nearly 800 references, and an index to all names. The catalogue is available as a hardbound book from Associated Publishers for US$75.00.
